I rented 2 movies with my girl this weekend. Both were funny. Fanboys and Role Models. Fanboys was amusing. What's up with Rush fanboys appearing in comedies lately!? Role Models was surprisingly good. I recommend KISS fans to catch that one.
I also caught Brothers Solomon on cable which was really funny.

Terminator Salvation is as good as T2. The special effects are really good and it has a definite war-like tone, the way war movies should have. Plus it was nice to hear "You Could Be Mine" by GNR in a terminator movie again! Bale does a nice job as Connor, he plays the character as someone who has doubt about his leadership because he discovers things about skynet that his mom never mentioned or even knew and so it makes him feels like he is not prepared or knows anything about how to fight skynet...and yet despite NOT being the leader of the resistance at the time the movie is set, people still follow and believe in him. This movie is about how he obtained his following and how he became the central command leader. More importantly it is about how he finds Kyle Reese. It's a weird dynamic...the adult knows that the kid is his father and has to make decisions to make sure his father never gets killed.
I try not to pay too much attention to reviews of movies I haven't seen yet. I most especially do not pay attention to the general consensus of a movie until i seen it.
I disagreed with the criticism Watchmen got and with Terminator Salvation. It just adds to my belief that many movie goers often miss the point or don't know what to make of a movie that they are not sure they like or not so they go the way of general opinion even before they have seen it.

gi joe just looks plain awful.
I am surprised with the mixed criticism that's out there. My guess is that it's from people who expect the same Terminator formula. My advice to you is to ignore that and judge it for yourself. I think that's the same advice I gave when people said they heard mixed things about T3 and most were surprised about that movie. This one definitely is surpasses T3 though in action, effects, and substance.
I figured you would be excited for this movie since you followed the Sarah Connor Chronicles to an extent. This movie blows away anything that was good about the TV series which was really not a lot. Definitely see this movie in the theater. This movie is left open for 2 more chapters as it is suppose to be a trilogy about the resistance, the war, how SKYNET discovers time travel, and the mentor-like relationship between Connor and a teenage Kyle Reese.

Saw Terminator Salvation last Friday. Awesome flick that surpasses T3, which I also enjoyed. Here's to the next 2 Terminator films that complete this trilogy on the war with the machines!
Also, this movie has the sickest Arnold cameo!
The Terminator film series is clearly succeeding and going places (plot-wise) where other sci-fi action film franchises have failed.Tthe Alien movies couldn't get passed the success of it's first 2 films. Out of the Predator franchise, first one is the only one worth watching and the AVP movies are just horrendous.
That said, this summer's is owned by Trek and Terminator. Not much else to look forward to for the rest of the summer movies. Of course, there is Tarentino's new film but that's not until the end of the summer.

I didn't mind the changes so much because of the time travel/alternate universe element. It worked within the laws of Trek so the events were totally plausible and acceptable. Without that, the movie would've been just a reboot and as a Trek fan, the movie would've been much harder to swallow. I think the most important part of the movie in order for it to work and be acceptable was the use of Old Spock as a means to bridge the 2 time lines together. The show "Enterprise" botched up the time travel aspect with a nonsensical time war that was never completely resolved. In the movie, the changes to the time line made it apparent to the audience that although this is a semi-prequel, the stakes are very real and even devastating.
My biggest gripe in the film though was the surprise relationship between 2 key characters. That didn't make too much sense. It's easier to believe Kirk scoring with Uhura and having his conquest as a part of his crew and having an unspoken off screen past with her...which is actually something that happens a lot today in the office world. Lol.
As far as Quinto as Spock goes, I thought he was fine. It's always been implied and shown that in Spock's younger years he struggled with his human side. By the time of the very first Star Trek movie Spock worked and struggled to purge his emotions/human side completely through vulcan rituals. Eventually Spock came to terms with this and embraced his human side in the Trek movies that followed as well as the TNG episodes he appeared in. Quinto did a good job in portraying that aspect of Spock's youth.

I could totally see that dude as Green Lantern.
Yeah, I'm not completely sure about Spock, but mostly because he was kind of a dick in this movie. I think he'll be a lot better in the sequel. I dunno, Chekov just annoyed me in this one. *shrug* Simon Pegg was awesome, and Karl Urban took a little getting used to, but I liked him in the end.
My bro hated this movie because it changed too much. I love whiny fanboys. But I told him that all the time-travel stupidity in Enterprise would have changed things beyond recognition anyway, so this is probably just an extension of that. And speaking of which, I thought Scotty's reference to a transporter mishap with Admiral Archer's beagle was the best line in the movie. _________________ http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Psychics-and-Swords/J-M-Naydol/e/9781435732391/?itm=1

Star Trek was pretty rad. I was especially surprised that Harold made a decent Sulu. But Chekov kind of sucked and was annoying and now I find out he's also taking over as Kyle Reese in the new Terminator? WTF? Lamerz.
I felt he pulled off Checkov pretty well. The character is hard to emulate and he pulled off a Russian accent. The best performance definitely goes to Karl Urban who portrayed Dr. McCoy. He might as well been a carbon copy of original McCoy/DeForest Kelley's mannerisms. Simon Pegg's Scotty was great too. I read the other day that Chris Pine ( Kirk) is in talks to portray Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern movie.
i thought checkov was cool. Well Anton Yelchin has russian parents so i guess wasnt hard for him to talk in russian since he's russian n all haha. karl urban was great, chris pine was awesome and think he'll get lot more leading roles after this. that fight sequence with sulu and kirk on the rill thing was bad ass. not sure what to make of spock yet.
bradley cooper was rumored to be green lantern as well, but who knows. im sure pine is up for it too. _________________ - http://www.readjunk.com

Saw Star Trek last night. It's a straight up homage to the original series and star trek lore. Many Surprises and a clever plot device is used to reboot the franchise in such a way where the stakes are made real in this prequel that's not really a prequel but really a sequel. The acting is also outstanding. It's obvious the actors portraying the main crew studied the original actors of the tv series also giving respect to the main characters the movie cast portrays. There is definitely some things that could have been implemented way better but the film succeeds in being widely entertaining while jump starting the franchise in such a way where new fans are attracted and old fans questions as to how this fits within the established cannon of Star Trek are made very clear.. It must be seen to be believed. This is likely to be the best movie of the summer.

It's a Star Trek movie, the way a Star Wars movie should be. Frontier science fiction portrayed realistically right down to the starship sub marine battles which was a big part of the original star trek.
Interesting aspect of the movie is that it is not only a reboot for the star trek franchise but it also fits in with the established laws of star trek and is ALSO part of continuity because of pesky time traveling! Basically, the movie is an altered time line in which villains from the "present" of star trek have created. Leonard Nimoy, the original spock , is a huge part of the plot/movie as well. The movie is basically about Old Spock who seeks out young kirk's help to restore history. The reviews so far all say that this movie is designed to please both fans and introduce new fans. It just looks so carefully put together and well crafted.
From the clips I saw, this movie captures the spirit of the series very well and thus will rock.
Check out this great review...
