Comedy Death-Ray is a 2-disc album featuring some of the best comics out there today (and some new ones as well). The disc has over 150 minutes worth of stand up so that’s a lot of talking. This album was recorded at L.A’s Upright Citizen Brigade theatre and in San Francisco at the Comedy Death-Ray Sketchfest. Some of the comedians that are featured on this album are Paul F. Tompkins, David Cross, Doug Benson, Todd Glass, Patton Oswalt, Neil Hamburger, Brian Posehn and the guys from Reno 911.

The first disc starts off with Paul T. Tompkins who’s okay, not that great. I remember when he had segments on first season of Real Time with Bill Maher. I didn’t really think he was that funny, but always remembered him as the guy with clown teeth. Seriously, check out his two front teeth. David Cross is one of my favorite comedians so of course I felt he had one of the funnier stand-up acts on this album. David Cross talks about some porn movie titles, and also about having a dog. There were a lot of comedians I’ve heard of but haven’t actually listened to their act. I enjoyed stuff from Doug Benson a lot, who is the guy on all those VH1’s shows like Best Week After and I Love.. and the Vagina Monologues. The metal head Brian Posehn is always funny, and so are the guys from Reno 911. One guy I didn’t like at all and didn’t even smirk at his act was Neil Hamburger. I guess his shtick is being some old-time comedian with raunchy jokes but they just weren’t funny at all.

Overall, Comedy Death Ray has a lot of funny acts from some veteran comedians as well as some newcomers. Maybe I’ll check out Comedy Death Ray if I’m ever in L.A, which is highly unlikely. But if you can’t get to L.A to see the show on Tuesday nights, this is the next best thing.

Bottom Line: Some hilarious stand up acts, some not so funny.
Notable Tracks: Standup from David Cross, Doug Benson, Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Reno 911
